Castles Galore and Hell's Angels

We arrived in Frankfurt alright, but why stay in Frankfurt when you can ride a ferry down the Rhine river and see a tub load of old broken down castles (kind of reminds me of my own house....kidding - sort of).

We are settling in on the top deck of the cruise boat.  Ivan is set with a handful of wrapped chocolates....which turned out to be mostly filled with liquor and we ended up dumping them (boo hoo).

This is sort of like our boat, but not really.  Our boat was bigger and less party-time looking (more German-looking, ha ha).

The first castle we float by....

Is it just me or do these castles look a lot alike?  Maybe there was only one castle building company back then.

Here is the "ranch-style" castle...nicely spread-out.

Every girl is a princess on the river boat ride.

See? another princess :o)

How would you like to live on the side of the Rhine River on a hill with a view of lots of castles?  Yah, me, too.

This is one of my favorite shots and it isn't even of a castle!

A prince and princess enjoying the river cruise.

Not such a good photo, but it is on an island...in case you can't tell and it does look a little like a South Western style....what do you think?

Castle for sale: lots of air ventilation, overlooks a peaceful river, near tons of grape orchards, you can put your children in the tower and lock them away for a few years and let them grow their hair very long....oh, sorry, I got carried away.

Says it all, we loved spending this time together!

How could we know we would exit our lovely, peaceful cruise to be greeted by a massive Hell's Angels rally!

I kid you not!

Let's get the _______out of here!!!  OK, they were nice "angels" but their bikes were hideously noisey! (argh)

Cathedral in Koln, Germany

So many cathedrals and so little time!!!

After driving through Aachen on our way to Frankfurt we also drove through Koln and had to stop at the cathedral there, too.  This is all in a days drive!

Cathedral at Aachen Germany

After a nice rest in Liege we drove the next day through Aachen, Germany and had to stop at the cathedral there.

Perhaps this model of the cathedral gives a better idea of what the structure looks like from the outside.
and here is the inside....

If I didn't know better, the inside of this cathedral looks more like a mosque! BTW Charlemagne is buried here (I've been told).
