London Trip: Part 6, A Day and Evening in Salisbury

We spent our day in the quaint town of Salisbury.  You will see how very sweet it is.  This was Jay's pick to go to the very large cathedral here and listen to the choir sing the Evening Matin.  It was lovely.

We wandered around the small city until the matin began.

Afterwords, we had a terrible time finding a place to eat dinner.  Sadly, we ended up at Burger King.  However, we were greatful to have something to eat even though we had our hearts set on something a little more "Britishy."

Here we are taking the river walk.
Now here's a friendly Salisburian!

Take a picture...it lasts longer!  OK, no problem!

More of the river walk.  You can see it's a beautiful day for walking outside.

The swans and ducks float along.

Oh look! Christmas stars like in Germany's Christmas market!  I think these are so beautiful!

A quiet, pensive moment watching the birds.

There are still remnants of Christmas.  Thank you for decorating so nicely Salisbury :o)

On we plod.  We have nowhere in particular to go...just exploring.
The last of our view of the river walk.

Just for your information, I don't recommend The King's Head Inn for dinner.  We tried to eat there after the Evening Matin and it was filled with smoke and very unwelcoming.  Needless to say, we moved on.

Ivan has found a glorious Cookshop! We enjoyed looking at all the kitchen gadgets.  Viva cooking!

We didn't go in here, but it made a funny picture!

This is Lloyd's Bank.  It sure looks solid and long-lived, don't you think?

We explore these shops which turned out to be mostly pubs.

Look at these buildings.  What do you think?

We came across many homes with a name on it.  I thought that was a great idea.  What name would you give your home?

Every "old" city must have an arch somewhere.

This was just irresistable!

Here is the same shop from the front.  It was closed so we just took pictures.

We are finally on our way to the cathedral.

Which way?

Go past the red telephone booth....and.....

Here is the Salisbury cathedral!  We found it (hint-it is so large you can practically see it from any angle in the city).

Eye spy the moon.

The front of the cathedral.

It's very ornate as most cathedrals are.

Don't you love this hallway?

I liked this plaque - probably because I'm a quiet person :o)

More of the great hall.

Four halls surround this courtyard.

First glimpse inside.

I wish I could take better pictures of the stained glass windows.  They really are beautiful.

A nativity sets the scene.

Look for a doorway in the lower righthand side and a little off-center, this is a chapel dedicated to Thomas Becket inside the cathedral.  Who is he?  That's a good question for Wikipedia.

At this point, I was asked to not take pictures inside the cathedral....oops, sorry, you need better signs for tourists like me.
Night has fallen and we walk away from the cathedral.  Good-bye Salisbury Cathedral, thank you for the beautiful music.
