London Trip: Part 9, Charles Dickens Museum

This morning we were off to visit one of good ol' Charles Dickens' homes in London.  They have turned it into a museum.  We enjoyed "snooping" around his home.  There was a lot to learn about him.  There was also a theatrical presentation made by an upstart theater company (who's name, unfortunately, I do not remember).  We watched it performed in a small squishy Victorian room on the second floor.

This production was very creative.  They used puppets of all kinds - including shadow puppets - and bits of stories from various of Dickens' books to portray a moral theme of reaching out and caring for others while still in mortality (at least that is what I got out of it).
I enjoyed it, but I think Jay thought it was bizarre and probably too juvenile in its presentation for his tastes.  It's all good, though, Jay is a good sport and took it all in stride.

Here we are, at the front door.  Let's see if anyone is home.

Apparently, Charles enjoyed having friends over often for dinners and get-togethers.  This left me with the impression he was extroverted.

A cozy sitting room.

Here Ivan is in the best room of the house, the kitchen! (Which, by the way, was in the basement....ugh.)

How would you like to do dishes in this sink?

Or better yet, wash clothes in this barrel?

Christmas was a favorite time of year in the Dickens' home.

This is where it all happened (at least while he was in this home).  Emily is standing by his writing desk.  It looks very worn-out (I wonder why?).

This was a room with a creative exhibit.  Does it give you any ideas for interior decorating?

It was nice spending the morning with Charles Dickens, but now we must be off to our next adventure.  Time stops for no one.
